4:06:00 PM

Professor Mike Aaron Ocquaye, the Speaker of Parliament, has said that Parliament should be a place of refuge for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and the less-privileged in the society.

He said every group of persons in Ghana, was represented in the House, and that, it should go the extra mile to make things comfortable for the PWDs รข€" their rights were respected, bearing in mind that anybody could suffer disability at anytime.

Prof Ocquaye said this when Parliament hosted the Eugenuis Foundation, an organization, providing care for the less privileged.

This was to show help to the Foundation ahead of a concert it had planned to organize for PWDs on 30th December.

The programme has been dubbed Save a Soul Concert and would feature the Star Light Band - a musical group made up of the visually impaired and Minister Isaiah, a wheelchair user, who leads in worship
Prof. Ocquaye spoke of his eagerness to see more of the less privileged persons visiting parliament to interact with their elected representatives.

The Speaker and the Members of Parliament (MPs) joined in singing and dancing to lovely rendition of some popular gospel tunes by the Voices of Democracy Choir.

The event brought together PWDs and mothers of children with cerebral palsy.

The Speaker donated items, including bags of rice, edible oil, tinned fish, diapers, wipes and cash to them as Christmas gift.

Mr. Eugene Danso, Founder of the Eugenuis Foundation, said they were grateful to the Speaker for the unbelievable reception and invited him to become an Ambassador for persons with disabilities
