5:36:00 AM

Following the announcement on a ban on drumming and noise making in Accra between May 14 and June 14, 2018, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has drawn some guidelines to ensure peace and security within the city.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the AMA, Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the assembly stated that during the period, the usual form of worship in churches and mosques, should be confined to their premises while noise levels are also reduced to the barest limits possible.

The religious bodies and the traditional authorities must show respect for one another and restrain their followers from making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about the beliefs and practices of one another, it stated.

The statement added that the positioning of loudspeakers outside the premises of churches, mosques and pubs were also banned while roadside evangelists were to cease their activities during the period.

The assembly further cautioned the public that apart from an identifiable task force which consists of AMA personnel, the police and representatives of traditional authorities with tags, nobody should be seen or found enforcing the abatement of noise in the metropolis.

It further spelt out the areas to be affected as the northern boundary dividing Accra from the Eastern Region; Western boundary that includes Odukpon Kpehe (Kasoa) and Eastern boundary in the Osu Area.

It added that residents in villages and towns under Osu, Ngleshie Alata and Ga Traditional Councils would all be affected by the ban.
