UDS Students To Demonstrate Over Poor Security

4:03:00 AM

Students of the University for Development Studies (UDS) at the Wa Campus, have threatened to embark on series of demonstrations if the schools authorities and the Upper West Regional Security Council do not find a lasting solution to the increasing cases of armed robbery attacks on them.

Some unknown men have been robbing students of their belongings, with eight reported cases of robbery in the past one week in the institution.

Not only are students robbed but the perpetrators inflict machete wounds on their victims.

Most of the victims received cutlass and gun wounds, whilst some female students were raped, Mohammed Jaraa, President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the UDS Wa campus said.

According to Mr Jaraa, several attempts by the student leadership to find a solution to the problem have not yielded any result.

He further noted that students are living in fear as those living outside campus cannot commute at night to campus for group studies and other academic work for fear of being attacked.

He told Accra-based Citi FM, As we speak, a lot of students are on admission at the Upper West regional hospital in Wa, and there seems to be no solution, adding: Most of them now find it difficult to commute from Bamahu and the Wa town to the schools campus for studies.

To this end, Mr Jaraa has called on the school authorities, the police and the regional Security Council to address their concerns or they hit the streets to demonstrate.
