Extend Free SHS To Private Schools

9:36:00 PM

Mr Joseph Dzamesi, Administrator, Sonrise Senior High School, has appealed to government to extend the free Senior High School programme to cover students in private schools.

He said private schools were partners in educational development and not competitors of state second cycle schools and said students in private schools also needed government help to relieve their parents of financial burdens.

Mr Dzamesi said the over 55,000 Ghanaian children in private schools were not there because their parents were necessarily rich but because of lack of access to the public schools.

Mr Dzamesi who was speaking at the ninth graduation ceremony of the School in Ho said though government might not want to invest directly in any private educational institution, it was critical that it considered the Ghanaian children in such establishments and their future.

We therefore suggest that the amount earmarked per student to attend Senior High School be granted to the student whether he/she attends a public or private school, he said.

Dr John Tampuori, Medical Director, Volta Regional Hospital, advised the graduands to take advantage of opportunities to enhance their lots.

The School awarded two students who had six Grade A in the 2016 WASSCE with a scholarship package of $1000.
