‘Condemn Homosexuality

12:56:00 PM

The Western Regional Minister, Dr Kweku Afriyie has appealed to the clergy to embark on sustained crusade against same-sex marriage in the country.

He indicated that it has become difficult for politicians to speak against homosexuality because of the rule of law.

Dr Afriyie explained that in a democratic system, same-sex marriage could be accepted if the majority deemed it fit.

So you cannot expect governments or politicians to be at the forefront on the crusade against homosexuality. It is rather in the realm of pastors and other religious leaders to lead this crusade, he stressed.

The Regional Minister stated this when members of the Sekondi-Takoradi Ministers Network paid a courtesy call on him and his deputy, Gifty Eugenia Kusi at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Sekondi.

He disclosed that even though the practice could be legalized if the majority of Ghanaians accept it, the citizens should not compromise on their cultural values.

Even though I dont like polygamy, but I want to know why some Ghanaians will push for the criminalization of polygamy but want homosexuality be decriminalized, he quizzed.

He mentioned that the principle for marriage, which is also in line with African cultural values, is between a man and a woman, indicating that this is supposed to be the foundation for every family as prescribed by God.

Therefore, for a man to marry a man and a woman to marry a woman is very ungodly and unnatural.

This will ultimately lead to a morally decayed nation, so please I am urging you dont be terrified to speak against same-sex marriage, he stressed.

Rev Timothy Ennor of the Presbyterian Church in Takoradi told Dr Afriyie that the churches in the region would help him in prayers to succeed as a regional minister.

He, however, admonished the regional minister and his deputy to work hard to achieve the vision of the President for the region.

There might be some people who will want to discourage you or pull you down in the discharge of your duties but be focused and know that the Lord is with you, Rev Timothy Ennor stated.
