Kwasi Aboagye of Peace FM Assaulted By Fennec’s Family

It has been confirmed that Amarkie, the wedded wife of murdered artiste manager Fennec Okyere, was prevented from attending and partaking in the final funeral rites of her late husband.
It seems all is not well between the widow and the family of her late husband.

She was not allowed to see the corpse of her murdered husband and also prevented from taking part in his burial, memorial and thanksgiving services.
Though no official reason has been given for preventing Amarkie from playing her role as a widow, reports said Fennec’s family members had said they could not guarantee the widow’s security if she dared show her face at the funeral.

Though the family has not officially explained why they prevented a wedded wife from taking part in the funeral rites of her husband, a statement from Fennec’s funeral brochure accused her of abandoning Fennec while he was alive.

Anas, goes to court over DVLA licence racket

An investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has filed an application for judicial review at the Fast Track High Court, seeking a number of reliefs from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

The action was filed on the grounds that the DVLA had breached its obligatory statutory duties, as well as engaged in illegal and inaction by neglect of its obligatory statutory duties.

The reliefs being sought include a declaration that the DVLA owes a duty to the general public and road users in particular to promote good driving standards by ensuring that only qualified and competent applicants are issued with driver's licences.

Undercover investigations at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) have established a licence racketeering network of officials and some deviants who issue licences to unqualified individuals for the personal monetary gain of those officials and deviants.

Banku and Tilapia joints are booming in business

There is nothing more delicious on a hot afternoon or cool evening than a ball of soft banku and spicy-grilled tilapia with fresh pepper and shito to kill your hunger.

Like other Ghanaian dishes such as fufu, rice balls, red-red, waakye and banku tilapia has become a delicacy for most Ghanaians, adding to the delicious and irresistible Ghanaian cuisine.

Apart from the mouth-watering nature of a grilled tilapia, its sumptuous taste, coupled with its appetising and attractive sight because of garnishing, has made the meal the favourite of most Ghanaians. Grilled tilapia, mostly eaten with banku and hot pepper, is served in almost all leading restaurants, as well as at some special joints.

With between GH¢5 and GH¢30, patrons of the meal get to enjoy either a small, regular or large size of tilapia fish and banku.

Mass burial for 254 stillborns at 37 Military Hospital

The 37 Military Hospital in Accra will hold a special mass burial of 254 unidentified and unclaimed corpses of stillborns which have been abandoned at the hospital mortuary for the past four years.

Interestingly, this comes at a time when the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi is facing public outrage for failing to account for a baby it claimed had been stillborn.

In an interview, the Public Relations Officer of the 37 Military Hospital, Madam Christine Atepor, explained that the mass burial was aimed at decongesting the mortuary, which is currendy filled to capacity.

“This facility is a very busy one because people die every day and, therefore, there is the need to decongest the mortuary for fresh bodies,” she said.

AFAG threatens to demonstrate if 17.5% Bank Charges is not withdrawn

Pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), has threatened street protests over a new Value Added Tax (VAT) Law, which critics claim imposes levies that could cripple the nation’s banking sector.

“Under the current turbulent economic mess, led by a failed President; John Mahama, it is unthinkable to further burden Ghanaians with another aggressive and senseless tax regime,” the group said in a statement.

Plans to implement the new law have provoked public outcry after reports claimed the new fees could erode the value of savings made by customers in the nation’s banks. It was also reported that the new law could make the cost of loans in Ghana extremely expensive.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance issued a statement, denying the reports. The Ministry’s statement also sought to clarify issues relating to the law and its impact on banking services and charges nationwide.

When Is The Government Going To Stop Taxing The People Of Ghana?? – Kwesi Pratt Queries

“It seems like there is always a new tax being introduced…at what level are we going to stop taxing the people of this country? When are we going to have any tax relief?”

The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr. sought to find out why government is always introducing new taxes without giving explanations as to why, or what the money is going to be used for.
“There is no understanding on the issue. Meanwhile, we have a government communication team and a ministry of information. There is even a new tax on petroleum…what is going on? The argument for increasing the prices of petroleum products is shallow and senseless. Even the frequency of the increases doesn’t make sense,” he added.

Kwesi Pratt was commenting on the introduction of a new tax on banking services rendered to clients. The 17.5% tax which is to be implemented in May, will cover services offered by financial institutions unless they decide to absorb the cost.

Research Reveals Ghana Loses $1.2 Billion Annually To Tax Incentives

The role of taxation in development financing cannot be overemphasized. However the capacity of many developing countries including Ghana to raise the needed tax revenue to finance their development can easily be constrained by over-generous tax incentive regimes. Civil Society organizations in Africa are therefore pushing for the end of tax incentives to attract Foreign Direct Investment.

Ghana’s trade policy and development agenda have over the years been dictated by the desire to attract Foreign Direct Investment and to increase export earnings. Hence tax incentives have been a major strategic tool to achieve this. A recent research by Action Aid Ghana has revealed that Ghana may be losing $1.2 billion annually as a result of tax incentives. This loss of revenue could be channeled into developmental projects.

17.5% VAT On All Services? - Ghanaians Must Wake Up Before It Is Too Late

We got the ff message from one of the banks in the country:

"Dear Valued Customer, with the coming into force of the new VAT ACT 870, banks are required to charge a 17.5% VAT on all services rendered for a fee, effective May 2014."

This is daylight robbery at its best. The current government has now indeed proven to Ghanaians that they are totally incapable of thinking out of the box to provide real practical solutions to the problems faced by the people of Ghana.

And to top it all, they have no control over the various government institutions resulting in a free for all looting raid by Ghanaians against Ghanaians. Look how fat they have become ever since they came to power.
The problem with Africa is that accountability is almost non existent. The majority who carry the vote have little to no education and are therefore incapable of making informed decisions. It is easy for them to think of their belly first before anything else.

The people in power are very much aware of this and tend to drag their feet when policies to move education forward are introduced. It is critical that basic education at least is made freely available. Why do you think this is the case abroad? It is necessary for the existence of a healthy democracy.

Ghana, wake up!

Despite moves by the Bank of Ghana to save the cedi from further fall, it appears the local currency is still struggling to keep its head above water.

The Euro yesterday morning hit GH¢4 after rallying between GH¢3.80 and GH¢3.90 for some weeks now.

Last week, it started the week at GH¢3.88, hitting GH¢3.89 mid week and GH¢3.92 by close of the week.

The Euro is not the only major foreign currency that the cedi is struggling to keep up with.

Forex analysts fear the dollar and Pound Sterling may also hit GH¢3 and GH¢5 respectively soon, if the current trends continue.

New banana disease in Africa threatens livelihoods of farmers

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is warning countries to step up monitoring, reporting and prevention of one of the world's most destructive banana diseases, Fusarium wilt, which recently spread from Asia to Africa and the Middle East, and which has the potential to affect countries in Latin America.

The TR4 race of the disease, which is also known as Panama disease, is posing a serious threat to production and export of the popular fruit, with serious repercussions for the banana value chain and livelihoods, FAO said in an information brief.

Banana is the eighth most important food crop in the world and the fourth most important food crop among the world's least-developed countries, according to FAOSTAT, the UN agency's data-gathering and analysis service.

Uganda parliament opens athletics s3x abuse probe

Kampala (AFP) - Uganda's parliament has opened a probe into the alleged s3x abuse of elite female runners from the national team by a top coach, calling the affair a "national shame".

The east African nation, an emerging distance running power that has been trying to take on regional rivals Kenya and Ethiopia, has been gripped by the scandal for nearly a month.

According to officials and local media reports, female runners were subjected to s3xual harassment and abuse while participating in a training camp to prepare for last month's Africa Cross-country Championships.

"This is a national shame that a coach can harass these young girls and he goes scot-free," Betty Amongi, an MP and chair of Uganda parliamentary women's association, told reporters.

Extravagant spending at President Jonathan's daughter's wedding in Abuja

In a country where people still suffer and go about their daily activities wondering when and where the next terrorist strike will be, Tonto Dikeh's boyfriend, malivelihood got a job to do "gold" customization for gifts that were to be presented to guests at President Jonathan's daughter's wedding in Abuja, he was quite excited but didn't realize that such extravagant spending was too much for a politician.

Since President Jonathan is not a businessman and hasn't made any reasonable income until he came into politics, many in the country are very angry indeed as they feel that Nigeria's money is being spent lavishly. People have started complaining on social media and the Presidency has decided to put pressure on Tonto Dikeh's boyfriend.

Klint Da Drunk Says His Colleagues Want To Run Him Down

Popular comedian Klint Da DrunkIn in a recent interview with Punch, has alleged that his colleagues are trying to run him down, peddling rumors that his love for computer game is the reason he hasn't gone far in his comedy career.

“Now they say I would have gone far in my career if not for my love for computer games. It is this same set of comedians that went around telling people that I live in Abuja so that I will not be getting Lagos shows. My colleagues want to run me down, let them feel free.

It is because they are afraid of me; they feel that if they run me down I won’t survive it. I am a gadget lover, that is the truth. Everyone knows that whenever I walk into a gadget shop the people there want me to educate them about some of their gadgets. Isn't it better that I am a sucker for video games than a sucker for smoking igbo, marijuana?” he asks.

On his relationship with other comedians, Klint said “They have cliques but that does not bother me because it doesn't affect my career. God still chases away flies for a tailless cow. So, I’m not complaining”.

[Shocking] - Canadian Government Wants More Canadian P0rn?

The Canadian government formally warned three p0rn channels last week, saying they’re not Canadian enough. Yes, some bureaucrats monitoring the airwaves punched a few numbers into their calculators and said, “Ottawa, we have a problem.” But how exactly did they determine that? Did they not see enough maple-syrupy s3x in a hockey rink? Not enough, “Harder! Faster!! Eh?”

Luckily, it looks like these bureaucrats were basically looking at the credits, not [email protected] action. The agency regulating northern airwaves, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, requires all content broadcast by Canadian TV stations to be at least 35% Canadian. That works out to roughly an 8.5 hours of straight-up northern exposure a day.

To qualify as a Canadian program, shows must have Canadian producers and executive producers, and the director or lead writer must be Canadian, as well. The 1st or 2nd lead also needs to be Canadian — which could be hard to tell when assessing the Canadian content of “Quebecois Ménage A Trois.” (Say it, you won’t be sorry).

Ghanaian Female Model Arrested In Germany

Sandra Sorice, a 33-year-old Ghanaian supermodel based in Germany, has been busted by German security agencies for allegedly swindling an unsuspecting businessman from Essen, a small town in Germany, of more than 750,000 Euros (approximately GH¢2.6 million), DAILY GUIDE has gathered from sources in Germany.

Ms. Sorice, who was picked up together with her 47-year-old investment banker boyfriend early this month, was accused of deceiving the businessman under the pretext that they could supply him with gold dust, but disappeared promptly after he (businessman) had paid the 750,000 Euros in several tranches.

“…they are said to have led the businessman to believe that the pre-payments are necessary for fees and export taxes,” German newspaper Dusseldorf Express reported on April 9, 2014.

Mike, who was being catered for by Mbale Senior secondary school in the eastern part of the country (Uganda), defrauded his sponsors millions of shillings; he later got arrested by police, and jailed for years.

From tens and hundreds of orphan students, Mike Twino, not his real name, was lucky to be selected by his school, to have free education and other benefits including accommodation, food and scholastic materials.

This greedy student, wanted to get rich quickly without any struggle and before completing his studies, thus, he ended up steeling from his sponsors.

Like else where in the world, schools and other institutions of learning, do reach agreements with Banks to receive and collect school fees of the students on their behalf.

Normally at the beginning of every term and every year, there are so many students who visit various branches of the bank to pay their fees.

Volta Region - Unlawful Practices Regarding Fuel and T&T

Some fuel filling stations in the volta region are not using the standard measurement/liters forcing the drivers to be charging fares twice/thrice what's supposed to be paid.

The volta region is worst in unlawful practices regarding fuel and T&T. Everywhere you go, and aside their wicked behavior it's 4-4 or even some cases 5-5 instead of the usual 3-3 passengers.

Come to Ho, Dzodze, Aflao, Akatsi, Abor, Sogakope, Dabala Agbozome, Kpetoe etc etc etc etc and see.
The police in those areas are also allowing such "unlawful" practice. All they do is to be taking GHC1 or GHc5 from these unlawful drivers.

Please have this unlawful acts checked.
