Bugri Naabu Rejects IGPs Calls For Agbogbloshie Relocation

2:48:00 PM

Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Bugri Naabu has made defiant calls at the recent suggestion by the Inspector General of Police to have settlers of Agbogbloshie relocated. David Asante-Appeatu on Wednesday after visiting and inspecting the area following deadly clashes involving Dagombas and Kokombas suggested that the settlers should be relocated.

This suggestion was greeted with stern resistance from the feuding groups.

On Thursday, April 13 when he visited the area, the NPP regional chairman rubbished the IGPs suggestion. But where will we relocate them to he asked. He assured the settlers that there will be no relocation, making an appeal rather to the IGP to beef up security in the community. I am appealing to the IGP to get up and see to it that more police are in the [Agbogbloshie] market. We have seen some soldiers but more of the police are not here. He told journalists that the simmering tension within the area should not be two policemen or three policemen.

According to him, there are enough space for sophisticated gadgets of the police to be mounted as part of surveillance. Notwithstanding, tranquil has been restored to the area since the clashes on Tuesday left three persons dead. The IGP had visited the area together with the ministers of Defence, Interior and National Security. A house-to-house search began on Wednesday to retrieve all illegal arms from the settlers. Five persons were arrested on the first day of the lockdown.
