Woman Pours Hot Water On Tutor

4:20:00 PM

A tutor of the Mawuli Senior High School suffered severe burns when his next door neighbour poured hot water on him at Awusagbakope, a suburb of Kpetoe in the Agotime Ziope District of the Volta Region.

Matilda Ebor pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm when she appeared before the Agotime-Kpetoe Magistrate Court.

According to the prosecutor, Corporal Ernest Nketiah, on November 6, last year, the teacher, Mr William Agbenyo, was clearing some weeds within his boundary when without any provocation, Matilda began hurling insults at him.

He said Mr Agbenyo, unperturbed by the insults, later saw Matilda advancing towards him with a bowl whose contents, which turned out to be hot water, she poured on him, burning his chest, face and hands.

Corporal Nketiah said following the incident, Mr Agbenyo lodged a complaint at the police station.

Matilda also reported to the police claiming that Mr Agbenyo had threatened to kill her and had also destroyed some trees in her house.

According to the prosecutor, police investigations revealed that the teacher had not caused any damage to any tree, neither had he threatened Matilda as she alleged.

Matilda was, therefore, charged with causing harm contrary to section 69 of Act 29/60 before the court, presided over by Mr Justice Samuel Essel-Walker.

She was fined 100 penalty units equivalent to GH¢ 2,000 or in default serve 18 months imprisonment.

She had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court also ordered her to pay GH¢ 2,000 as medical expenses to the teacher.
