Our Sales Have Dipped – Marwako

6:20:00 PM

Marwako Fast Food Limited has witnessed a significant drop in sales after news broke that a kitchen staffer had been abused by her Lebanese supervisor at the Abelenkpe branch of the eatery, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, Public Relations Manager of the restaurant, has said.

“You shouldn’t expect anyone out there to tell you that such a situation will not affect sales. As I said [with] the report on Saturday, if really you are a core client or customer of Marwako, you would have some inner feeling. You will feel that this is wrong so it’s enough to change your appetite for Marwako food, so definitely it has really affected us and we are moving around the clock because we have to analyse the issue scientifically,” he told Class FM  Thursday 9 March.

It is recalled that about two weeks ago, Jihad Chaaban, a Lebanese supervisor, allegedly subjected Ghanaian kitchen staffer Evelyn Boakye to the assault by shoving her face into a paste of freshly blended pepper for fidgeting with a blender and working slowly.

The inhumane treatment has caused public outrage, resulting in a social media campaign for Ghanaians to boycott the eatery.

Mr Chaaban has since been charged with assault, offensive conduct, and causing harm, which he has pleaded not guilty to. He is to reappear in court on 16 March.

Although Mr Lamptey admitted a slump in sales for Marwako, he expressed confidence that the verdict of the court would vindicate the restaurant and eventually win over more clients.

“Ever since the story came out, we’re still trying to monitor and evaluate our sales. Yesterday, we couldn’t work but the calls that we had from our customers was just amazing. Some of them even called to empathise with us and we know some of them will determine not to come over again, but I know the strategies that we would be rolling out in the days to come will let them understand the realities and we know the verdict that would be given by the court will rather increase the value of our market shares and we are also even going to attract more customers,” he noted.
