Gov't to investigate leaked Awuku tape

Government says it will investigate the content of the alleged leaked tape involving Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Sammy Awuku over the election petition case.

A voice purporting to be that of Mr. Awuku was captured assuring supporters of the NPP in UK of the allegiance of a majority of the nine judges sitting on the election petition case.

Although Sammy Awuku has denied the comments attributed to him, government says the contents of the tape are dangerous and must be investigated.

Addressing the media at the Flagstaff House on Monday, a Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu said it is the responsibility of government to protect all the judges of the panel and will not renege on it.

“Government has the responsibility to ensure the safety and the security of all its citizens if there are indications that if any plan is underway to undermine or prejudice the security of any of our esteemed judges it should be a matter of concern to government.

“The information ministry will procure a copy of the tape listen to it and if it is something that poses a threat to any of our judges we would hand it over to the appropriate agencies,” he affirmed.
